About Sukhi Singh of Sukhi’s Gourmet Indian Foods

Born in India, Sukhi Singh learned the art of cooking Indian Foods as a young girl from her grandmother and has remained an avid chef ever since.

Sukhi moved to the United States in 1985 and her story is a classic one of immigration. Despite facing financial ruin after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, Sukhi continued to take risks and follow her passion for food.

Sukhi’s entrepreneurial spirit continued to flourish and by 1992, Sukhi’s Gourmet Indian Foods was founded on a tub of her delectable curry sauce. Each tub hand mixed by Sukhi and her family in a rented commercial kitchen.

Who would imagine that the influx of Indian workers to the Silicon Valley would bring Sukhi her next big opportunity! A chance phone call from a dining director at Hewlett Packard started Sukhi’s food service business which has now expanded in dining halls at Fortune 500 companies across the country.

Realizing the incredible potential for a company that was founded on a dream of bringing authentic Indian food to every table in America, Sukhi’s children quit their technology careers in 2005 to join their mom full time. Sukhi’s has always taken pride in using only the freshest ingredients and most recently received Organic Certification from the QAI which ensures organic integrity from seed to shelf. Sukhi’s is proud that their product line now includes delicious and healthy Vegan options along with the beloved and best selling Chicken Tikka Masala which are available at Whole Foods and other natural grocery stores across the country as well as Costco and other leading supermarkets.

“A September 2009 survey of ethnic food by the market research group Mintel found that the fastest growing segment was Indian food, with sales increasing nearly 35 percent from 2006 to 2008.” Sukhi’s is thankful for this continued growth and looking forward to a delicious future!
