What is International Women's Month and Day? | What are the IWE international Women's Day Awards?
- IWM and IWD provide us with an opportunity to reflect on the significant contributions of women, and the legacy left by earlier generations.
- The day is also an occasion to inspire commitment to the future challenges that women face in making further progress.
- IWE, each year joins in by celebrating Women’s achievements by honouring South Asian Women for their accomplishments.
Women’s Award
- The Women’s Awards are an opportunity to recognize women whose outstanding achievements and contributions have enriched the lives of others.
- The Women’s Award acknowledges and celebrates the contributions of women from all walks of life. Do you know of a woman who made a significant and positive difference? For example, you may know of a woman who has made a significant contribution through the workplace or in research, or you may be aware of someone who has contributed to the community by assisting with local clubs or sporting teams, or as a long standing volunteer providing support for people in need.
Who is eligible to be nominated?
- The IWE acknowledges and celebrates contributions throughout the community.
- Nominees can be from areas such as business, sport, education, science, culture and the arts, the environment, public service or the community to name just a few.
How to Nominate?
- Please complete the nomination form and submit it at contact@iweusa.org no later than February 5th.
- Please provide a detailed description of the person or persons you are nominating, including a description of the contribution or achievement made using the nomination form.
- Please indicate which category you are nominating this individual for by ticking the appropriate box.
- To support your nomination, please provide details of at least two referees for the person you are nominating.
- The nominees and Award recipients will be notified prior to the Awards presentation.
- All award recipients have to be present at the Award ceremony to receive and acknowledge the awards.
Nomination Criteria
Women who live or work in USA and of South Asian Origin are eligible to be nominated. A separate form must be completed for each nomination. Winners will be chosen in early March 2010. Awards will be presented at a special ceremony on Saturday, May1, 2010
The information you provide will be used fairly and lawfully and IWE will not knowingly do anything which may lead to a breach of the Data Protection Act 1998.

Public service
This award could go to a woman who :

Made a difference in women, children and senior citizen’s lives.

Turned around lives of women in their community
-
Influenced the running of local services.

Made an important contribution in legislation of women’s issues.

Culture Award
This award could go to a woman who has:
-
Set up an outstanding cultural project
-
Demonstrated exceptional creativity and talent
-
Encouraged others to enjoy and/or participate in arts and culture in the borough

Entrepreneur Award
This award could go to a woman who has:
-
Set up her own business, creating employment or training opportunities for others
-
Promoted women's equality in the workplace
-
Achieved success in a 'non-traditional' occupation

The Technical Achievement Award
This award could go to a woman who has:
- Over a period of years, has made outstanding technical contributions to theory and/or practice in technical areas within the scope of the Society, as demonstrated by publications, patents, or recognized impact on the field.

Philanthropist Award
This award could go to a woman who has :
- Built strong and positive relationships within the local community
- Set up support networks for minority groups
- Challenged inequality within the community
- Volunteered her time and skills and gone beyond the call of duty
- Tackled community problems
- Contributed monetarily.

Women’s Health Award
This award could go to a woman who has:
- Made an important contribution to the health, well-being or fitness of others in her community
- Promoted healthy living through her business, at her place of work, at a local school or youth club
- Set up and run a sports club

Outstanding young woman Award
This award could go to a young woman, aged 25 or younger, who has:
- Made a difference within her local school, college or workplace
- Made a difference within her local community, e.g. by undertaking voluntary work
- Achieved success in difficult circumstances

Panel of Judges
- The panel of judges will consist of IWE Chief Executive.Four other judges will be appointed by the IWE Chief.
- The 3 Judges will assess nominations and will make the final selection.
Closing date for nominations
Nomination forms must be received by close of business on February 5th.
